Feeding, Forage and Water at Pony Club Camps and Multi- DayEvents

01/09/2026

Pony Club Australia developed a Feeding, Forage & Water at Pony Club Camps and Multi-Day Events guide to help clubs, event organisers, riders and parents translate the requirements of the PCA Horse Welfare Policy into practical arrangements when horses are away from home for camps, overnight events and multi-day competitions.
The guide has been developed in consultation with our Horse Welfare Lead, Dr Kate Fenner, Integrity Manager Suanne Waugh, and equine nutritionist Dr Nerida McGilchrist.
It covers areas including planning forage across the full 24-hour period, daytime and overnight forage, water provision, maintaining a horse’s usual diet, and the responsibilities of both organisers and riders. It also includes practical checklists and suggested wording that clubs and event organisers can use in their own event information.
Importantly, it also explains the relevant mandatory requirements of the PCA Horse Welfare Policy and what may occur where those requirements are not met.
This will be a valuable rescource for our members and Clubs planning events.
